Lean Warehouse Implementation

Lean Warehouse Implementation

Reducing waste, maximizing customer value.

The process of growth and instituting Lean is a never-ending cycle of finding ways to eliminate waste and add more value to the products we have for the customers we serve.

As businesses scale and grow, their systems need to change and adapt to meet the increase in volume. 2020 proved to be a very busy year in the construction industry, and with this growth, BPI was challenged with looking at how our warehouses were configured. The first location to undergo a transformation was the Fargo branch, where we converted from a millwork facility to a full-line building materials warehouse. At the same time, we began our Lean journey with the Fargo facility implementing 5S, cellular work stations, SMART product placement, instituting best practices, and improving service to the customer.

The above processes were also implemented at our Council Bluffs facility. Formerly a wood and commodity products location, this branch was transformed to a fully-stocked building materials facility that still includes wood products such as EWP.

As we keep on with other facilities, we will continue to refine the processes that are working so that our agility continues to improve. This Lean transformation is a new way of thinking and acting which allows us to eliminate waste and add more value to the products and services we deliver to the customers we serve.
